Interested in curling? Want to join a team or just learn what all the sweeping is about? If so, then register for two of our instructional sessions during our Learn to Curl week. During your first session you will learn how to deliver and sweep a stone while at your second session you will learn how to play the game. Each session will last about two hours. Please see our attached flier for dates, times and registration information.
Your first session during Learn to Curl week is an introduction to the sport of curling. First, you will be given a short off the ice instruction on how the game is played, and an explanation of the rules, terminology, and equipment. You will then move onto the ice where instructors will teach you the proper way to deliver and sweep a stone. This session will last about two hours.
During the second Learn to Curl session you will learn how to play an actual game. You will be paired up with experienced curlers who will continue to help you with your delivery, teach you the rules and etiquette of the game, and about the Spirit of Curling. An average game will last roughly two hours.
You do need to bring a clean pair of tennis shoes to wear on the ice. The soft-soled rubber of the tennis shoes will provide more traction than a hard-soled dress shoe. The temperature on the ice is around 40 degrees so you will want to dress in layers and bring a pair gloves. We recommend that you wear loose fitting clothes. Sweatpants or running pants are typically more comfortable than jeans. The club will provide all the equipment for new curlers.
We have leagues for all ages 5th grade and up. See our website’s “Leagues” section.
No problem. Contact us at info@curlwaupaca.com and we will try to arrange a time for you to come to the club.
There are always teams and leagues looking for new curlers. When you sign up on your membership registration form you will circle the leagues that you want to curl in. The Chairperson for that league will then find you a team of experienced curlers to curl with you. Show up for the first night that leagues start and you will be introduced to your new teammates.
Show up on time, be ready to learn, and have a good time. Nobody expects a new curler to throw stones like an Olympian. League Chairpersons will make up evenly balanced teams based upon the players experience and ability.
