HIGH SCHOOL

High School League
  • Teams:
There are both Boys and Girls Varsity and JV teams. The Waupaca High School lists curling as a club sport, allowing students to achieve a Club Letter.
  • Time:
All league games are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 3:45PM. In addition to weekly games, there are a few optional weekend bonspiels (tournaments) as well as the Wisconsin High School State Curling Championships.
  • Place:
Waupaca is currently in the Columbia County High School Curling League, which includes Poynette, Portage, Lodi, and Pardeeville. Games will alternate between these locations, with students being allowed to leave school early to attend these matches.
  • League:
Students are placed in a fun atmosphere were they will build friendships, learn about sportsmanship, and the Spirit of Curling. League will focus on the basics: stone delivery, sweeping, and the rules of the game. After that, the focus will turn towards teamwork and game strategy.
  • Competitiveness:
Waupaca has a long history of winning State Championships, with several being won under our current Coach, Jason Smith. Former Waupaca curlers have continued on to win Badger State, Collegiate, National, and World Championships. Any student, with or without any curling experience, is welcomed to join. Students will receive a month of instruction before league starts as well as continuous instruction throughout the season.
